NEW Teen Fire- Teen Center
THE SALVATION ARMY PETOSKEY OPENS TEEN CENTER TO PROVIDE TEENS A SAFE PLACE TO GO AFTER SCHOOL
October 4, 2017, Petoskey, MI- The Salvation Army Petoskey Corps recently opened the Teen Fire- Teen Center & Coffee House to give teens a fun, safe, affordable place to go with friends after school. The center is located at The Salvation Army Petoskey Corps office building at 712 Pleasant Street in Petoskey next to Walgreens South and is open daily after school throughout Petoskey’s public school year from 3:30p.m. to 6:00p.m. There is a small fee of $5.00 for teens who want to drop by, or they can join the Teen Fire club and save 20% per month. Scholarships are available to teens that are unable to afford the cost. Transportation is available from Petoskey High School and Petoskey Concord Academy.
The center was created to meet the need of the local community, not only to give teens a positive after school experience, but also to allow commuting parents a safe alternative for their children until they get out of work. Teens love the center because it allows them to hang out with their friends, play games, eat snacks, use Wi-Fi or listen to music. Parents love the center because they know where their kids are, that they are safe, have snacks and have someone available to help with homework when needed.
"This is a classic example of where a need and an opportunity intersect” said Envoy Greg Irwin, “The need for furnishing a safe and fun environment for teens while at the same time providing a constructive avenue that fosters their increased need for independence within appropriate boundaries make our teen center an ideal choice for teens and parents alike”.
Teen Fire- Teen Center & Coffee House is part of The Salvation Army Petoskey Corps’ After School Program and Teen Fire is a Christian-based Salvation Army youth group. Although Teen Fire is Christian based, all teens are welcome at the center regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability or sexual orientation.
